Group 'Day of Service' Volunteer EVENTS

National Links Trust welcomes volunteer groups for one-time service projects throughout our three Washington, DC golf facilities - Rock Creek Park Golf, Langston Golf Course, and East Potomac Golf Links. Projects may include Habitat Restoration (Invasive Plant Removal or Native Species Plantings), Trash Clean-up, or Driving Range Clean-up. These projects help make a difference at our facilities and in the community!

If your group is larger than 30, we may need to split them into multiple groups with projects at different locations or time frames. For groups smaller than 5, please see our running list of on-going volunteer events to find the opportunity that works best for your group.

  • Project times are during the weekday from 9am - 4pm and are usually 2-3 hours in length. Weekends maybe available on a limited, case-by-case basis depending on size, golf course and time of day.

Golf Ball Wrangle Day of Service Event Saturday, January 25th from 12:00 - 4:00pm

National Links Trust needs your help to remove hundreds of lost and abandoned golf balls and other trash and debris from the golf course that have been exposed due to the removal of acres of invasive vines and vegetation. Volunteers can keep any balls they find with the remaining recovered balls being donated or recycled. Registration is required so we may track the number of volunteers and equipment needed. All volunteers must complete the NLT Waiver as well. Be advised that some golf course rehabilitation work may occur during this event so volunteers will not be permitted to work in these areas.

Habitat Restoration with the Anacostia Watershed Society

Join NLT and the Anacostia Watershed Society in removing invasive vegetation and trash from the designated volunteer restoration area along the 10th hole of Langston Golf Course. These removal events are the foundation of our restoration work and they will ultimately guide our long-term rehabilitation plan. These events are also a great way to get some exercise, relieve some stress, and meet and engage with fellow municipal golf enthusiasts and environmental stewards. More details on the event will come from the Anacostia Watershed Society before the event. We hope to see you there!

Lost Golf Ball Recovery Program

If you play golf then you are well aware of how easy it is to lose a golf ball. But have you ever thought about the potential environmental harm of golf balls left abandoned in aquatic and terrestrial habitats? Golf balls are made of the same synthetic materials as plastic water bottles and break down in similar ways as microplastics that infiltrate our food streams. Please read this article from CNN that came out in September and is the inspiration for the new program.
How you can help. Iā€™m looking for volunteers will collect, sort, and clean golf balls found in native and naturalized areas around the Blue, White, and Red Golf Courses. If you are interested in learning more or helping me establish and lead this new volunteer project, PLEASE FILL OUT THIS GOOGLE FORM. Ideally, this program is managed by trained volunteer leaders during the work week for a few hours early in the morning (i.e. 6:00-8:00am). This is to allow working professionals the opportunity to help us before the workday starts.
For your efforts, volunteers will receive free range ball tickets and the opportunity to keep any and all golf balls they find. Repeat volunteers are eligible to receive free rounds of golf on the White and Blue courses.
